Southampton 1-2 Crystal Palace: Eagles again work miracles under Hodgson
Eagles came from behind to earn a third win out of the last six fixtures, thereby moving clear of danger despite the largely poor start to the campaign. And with this result Saints manager Pellegrino's job position will be certainly questioned.

When and where did the match take place?

Crystal Palace went on a visit to Southampton within the Premier League round 22 action, Tuesday 2 January 2018, which was played at St Mary's.

How the teams linep up:

Southampton: Alex McCarthy - Jeremy Pied, Jack Stephens, Maya Yoshida, Ryan Bertrand - Oriol Romeu, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - James Ward-Prowse, Dusan Tadic, Sofiane Boufal - Shane Long (4-2-3-1 formation)

Crystal Palace: Wayne Hennessey - Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Martin Kelly, James Tomkins, Jeffrey Schlupp - Yohan Cabaye, Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur - Andros Townsend, Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha (4-3-3 formation)

How it developed:

Saints started very brightly early on, and after 17 minutes Shane Long had bucked his trend of not getting on the scoresheet in 35 consecutive games, with the 30-year-old Ireland international receiving a cut-back to fire home from the centre of the box.

A rather unlively display from the Eagles despite James McArthur scoring an equaliser in the 69th minute. Anyway, despite offering little to threat, their finishing may have been vital to extend their good run of form with Hodgson at the helm.

It became kind of an entertaining thriller at the closing stages as Eagles came from behind to take the lead 2-1 through a Milivojevic screamer 10 minutes from time.
