Here's our Sporting CP vs FC Porto Prediction analysis: Sporting CP vs FC Porto PredictionUndoubtedly one of the biggest rivalry in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, Sporting CP lock horns with reigning champions FC Porto at the Estadio Jose Alvalade on Saturday evening.
Match status: 2020/21 Primeira Liga - Matchweek 4
Kick-off:
Venue: Estádio José Alvalade (Lisbon)
Over the years, these two teams have established themselves as the biggest sides in the country, joined at the top with Benfica. Sporting were pretty disappointing last season, and will be kicking themselves for missing out on Champions League qualification.

Meanwhile, FC Porto worked their asses off to steal the league title from under the noses of former champions Benfica. With another campaign up and running, expect these two sides to put forth a strong title challenge.

Sporting CP vs FC Porto Team News

Sporting’s wait for a Primeira Liga title continued as they relinquished the prestigious trophy to FC Porto last season. In fact, they were never really in the running for the title, as they were remained well behind the business-end of the log for most parts of the season.

Rather than challenge for the ultimate prize, the Lions were left battling to qualify for the Europa League, facing stiff competition from Rio Ave. With a decent 60 points from 34 games, Ruben Amorim’s men mustered a fourth-place finish.

Truth be told, they began the season brilliantly but saw their performances decline sharply as soon as midfield maestro Bruno Fernandes left for Manchester United in January. Without a suitable replacement for the 25-year-old, his role remained vacant to the detriment of the Lisbon club.

A new season is underway, and Sporting will be looking to play out a wonderful campaign to finally lay their hands on that league trophy – one that has eluded them for so many years. Sporting have picked up six points from their first two games.

On the road to the Estadio Municipal de Portimao, the Lions easily dispatched Portimonense, firing two unanswered goals past them. They will need another top-drawer performance this weekend, to stand any chances against FC Porto.

Having clinched the league title last season, the Dragons will be gunning for nothing but a repeat of that success story once again. They have already begun the new campaign in decent form, winning two of their opening three fixtures.

They were surprisingly defeated by Maritimo on the last matchday to mark their first loss of the juvenile season. With star player Alex Telles leaving for England on transfer deadline day, it remains to be seen who Sergio Conceicao drafts in as the Brazilian’s replacement in that left-back slot.
