Here's our Iceland vs England Prediction analysis: Iceland vs England PredictionRaring to return to the pitch after a ten-month hiatus from international football, Iceland lock horns with England in a crunch UEFA Nations League clash at Laugardalsvollur on Saturday evening.
Match status: 2020 UEFA Nations League
Kick-off:
Venue: Laugardalsvöllur (Reykjavík)
Drawn in Group A2 alongside Belgium, Iceland and Denmark; it is fair to say that the Three Lions have been handed a pretty easy group. With Belgium looking the most dangerous threats to the Englishmen, Southgate’s charges will be wary of the Red Devils.

However, England cannot afford to be complacent if they are to finish top of the pile. Taking each game one at a time, the Three Lions will set their sights on a win against Iceland in this opening fixture to get their campaign started on a winning note.

Iceland vs England Team News

Since knocking Kosovo for six in their last EURO 2020 qualifiers last November, firing four unanswered goals past them, England have not been in action. This has raised some eyebrows amidst the media as there are speculation as to whether the lads can hit their high marks once again.

Surely, the Englishmen will be a little rusty ahead of this fixture. Gareth Southgate will be spurring his boys on to produce a strong performance here to get their campaign off to a flyer. It goes without saying that they will have their work cut-out in a bid to pull this off.

While England had been on a long-term honeymoon, Iceland made sure they prepared properly for this competition. Arranging two friendlies against Canada and El Salvador earlier in the year, Erik Hamren’s charges recorded victories in both fixtures.

These favorable results must have given Iceland some much-needed confidence boost as they prepare to begin their Nations League campaign.

Iceland failed to make a good impression in the inaugural edition of the competition, losing all their four games, including losses to Switzerland and Belgium to finish bottom of their section. Looking to save face, Our Boys will be targeting a good run this time around, to make up for last term’s disappointments.

Even though Iceland will fancy toppling Group A2, a spot in the EURO 2020 finals is likely to be of more priority. Struggling to find their feet in the qualifying phases, Hamren’s men finished third on the log, a whopping four points adrift of second-placed Turkey.

After failing to earn automatic qualification to the European Championship, Iceland are now condemned to playoffs. They will need to overcome Romania in the semifinals before a final fixture to book a spot in next summer’s huge competition.

Erik Hamren’s men famously qualified for EURO 2016 – their first ever major tournament – defeating England 2-1 in the first knockout round. The Three Lions’ will still be wounded by that defeat, seeking to avenge that shocking loss this time around.

England enjoyed a brilliant run in the 2018/19 Nations League, reaching the semifinals, before being knocked out by the Netherlands. Southgate’s men went on to finish third after defeating Switzerland on penalties in a third-placed fixture.

With the sudden withdrawal of Marcus Rashford and Harry Winks from the squad, Southgate will be banking on the likes of Harry Kane, Mason Greenwood and Jack Grealish to deliver the goods for his side.

Iceland vs England Predictions

A news that must sound like music to Southgate’s ears, Iceland are missing a number of key players here. A quiet affair expected in Reykjavik, England should have enough about themselves to clinch maximum points, perhaps via a narrow win margin.
