Before the league was abruptly paused, Borussia Dortmund were on an impressive four-game winning run, and they had won seven of their last eight fixtures. Die Borussen are yet to taste defeat at home this season, and they’ll be raring to raring to get one over eternal rivals, Schalke. 

The Royal Blues would have most definitely been grateful the league break came at the time it did, as their form had taken a turn for the worst. David Wagner’s side have won just once in their last ten league matches, and risk undoing all the good work they put in during the first half of the season. Despite their abysmal form, Schalke remain 6^th in the league standings, one point above Freiburg in 8^th, and they have to start getting results if they wish to compete with Europe’s big boys next season.

Even amidst their purple patch, Dortmund have failed to lose a single league played at home this season, and they have swept opponents aside with relative easy. Die Borussen have won 9, and drawn 3 of the 12 league matches played at home this season, scoring 36 goals in the process. They will also, no doubt, be encouraged by Schalke’s poor form before the league was put on hold. 

The Royal Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by TSG Hoffenheim in their last outing, thereby extending their winless run in the league to seven matches – four losses and three draws. Despite this, Schalke maintain a strong position on the standings, and are 6^th, with 37 points from 25 matches. 

Schalke have been less than convincing on the road this season, and remain winless away from home since November. And they’ll be up against it, considering the fact that they’ll be going up against one of the best home sides in the league. Nevertheless, we are set for an entertaining match of football.
