Arsenal vs Chelsea Preview

Both coaches have faced off as players for the same clubs they are representing in this encounter and while it is Arteta’s only second game in charge, Lampard has managed to steer the Chelsea ship quite well since the season began. His was a baptism of fire in a 4-0 drubbing by United while his counterpart started out with a hard fought draw against lowly Bournemouth.

For Arsenal, it has been a woeful season after parting ways with former coach Unai Emery. Caretaker manager Freddie Ljunberg looked out of place and only time will tell of Arteta’s performance. Overall, in all competitions, Arsenal have only won once in 14 outings.

At home, the Gunners have won a third of their 9 games played on home soil (W3 D4 L2) and Arteta will be looking to claim the Blues’ scalps so that he may win over the fans’ support as well. Away side Chelsea are still rediscovering themselves. The Blues can sometimes put on a world-class performance like the one that saw off Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham, to putting up shambolic displays like the 2-0 tasteless defeat at the Stamford Bridge to relegation threatened Southampton.

Frank Lampard, the Chelsea tactician, is still trying to get the best out of his academy products and while players like Tammy Abraham seem to have found their place, work still needs to be done especially at the back. The Blues have let in the most goals in the top 9 teams and much is needed to restore sanity at the back.

One clean sheet in 9 games is by no means modest. Defensive frailtirs will definitely be exposed by the home side and Chelsea are well wary of the danger posed by Arsenal’s forward duo of Frenchman Lacazette and Gabonese Aubameyang. Emirates is a tricky venue for Chelsea given that they have only won once in 6 attempts. This will be an interesting duel which could well be a measure up of the two inexperienced coaches.
