Tottenham v Juventus Team News

Tottenham went into their away leg against Juventus as significant underdogs against a side who had been nigh on impenetrable over the past few months. The outcome looked bleak to say the least when Gonzalo Higuain notched a brace in the opening ten minutes, but Spurs responded incredibly well and managed to get a 2-2 draw from the jaws of defeat.

Since then they have won three and drawn one of their four competitive matches, progressing in the FA Cup and pulling themselves well into the Premier League top four. Given their two away goals in Turin, their chances in the Champions League aren’t looking too bad either.

Juventus won’t be an easy team to beat though. The Serie A champions have won all three of their games since that evening, extending their unbeaten streak to 20 games in all competitions. Their defensive record is second to none in Serie A, but conceding two at home to Tottenham has cast understandable doubt on their chances of getting a win at Wembley.

I Bianconeri will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet though. Spurs are good at the back, but Juventus have failed to score just three times this season and away from home have netted in 17 of their 18 games.

Most of the credit for Spurs' success this season has been given to Harry Kane, and while the Englishman is deserving of immense praise, he is not the only player in this side that makes a real difference week in and week out. Christian Eriksen is just as important from the midfield area, and the Dane showed how big his role is with his free kick goal in the first leg that has it all square heading to London.

Argentine wonder kid Paulo Dybala, the latest in a long string of those by the looks of things, just didn't get back to fitness in time to play a role in Turin in the first leg. Many would argue that it was a decisive factor in the match. Whether it was or not will never be known, but he does have a chance to make an impact here.

Teams' Potential Starting Line-ups:

Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Davies, Vertonghen, Sanchez, Trippier; Dembele, Dier; Eriksen, Alli, Heung-Min; Kane.

Juventus (4-3-3): Buffon; Sandro, Chiellini, Benatia, Sciglio; Matuidi, Pjanic, Khedira; Dybala, Higuain, Costa.

Injured or Suspended Players:

Tottenham: Toby Alderweireld is still sidelined for Tottenham, but apart from that they're hoping to be fully fit.

Juventus: Mattia De Sciglio and Gonzalo Higuain both missed the Lazio match on Saturday but are expected to travel to London. Alex Sandro, Stephan Lichsteiner, Federico Bernardeschi, Medhi Benatia, and Juan Cuadrado are all injured though.

Head-to-Head Record: Tottenham v Juventus

The first leg last month marked the first official meeting between Juventus and Tottenham. That match ended 2-2 after an absolutely thrilling match. Gonzalo Higuain had scored twice inside the first ten minutes, but his penalty miss is the shot everyone is talking about as Harry Kane pulled one back in the 35th minute. And 19 minutes from time, Christian Eriksen leveled matters as Spurs dominated the second half.
