Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano set to leave the Blaugrana
Argentina defender Javier Mascherano is to leave Barcelona after almost eight years and is expected to join Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune, Goal.com understands.
Argentina international Mascherano is expected to continue his career with a reported €10million switch to Hebei China Fortune ahead of the 2018 Chinese Super League season.
Mascherano, 33, joined Barca from Liverpool in 2010 for a reported fee of 22 million euros and was immediately converted by coach Pep Guardiola from a holding midfielder into a centre back, frequently deputising for injury-plagued former captain Carles Puyol.
He made 334 appearances for the club under five different coaches: Pep Guardiola, Tito Vilanova, Tata Martino, Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde.
Only thee foreigners have ever played more games for Barca than the 'Little Chief', namely Leo Messi, Phillip Cocu and Dani Alves.
