Former Man United player Ryan Giggs given Wales manager job
Red Devils legend Ryan Giggs has been announced as the new Wales manager succeeding Chris Coleman, who had been in charge of the national team for five years before being resigning as Wales manager on 17 November 2017 and then taking over at Sunderland.
The Cardiff-born man dedicated his entire professional footballing career to playing for Manchester United, before being appointed as a player-coach at Manchester United on 4 July 2013 - having worked under the likes of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal as assistant until Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho switched over to Man United from Chelsea in 2016.
He also had been the club's interim player-manager over the time he was at United, from 22 April to 19 May 2014, when he took up caretaker job after compatriot Moyes' departure and just about a month later, admitting he had struggled and hardly endured the pressure of managing such a big club like United, the then 41-year-old returned to assistant duties as Dutchman van Gaal took charge.
Over his short tenure as head coach at Old Trafford, the Welshman led United to a record of two wins, a draw and a defeat at the end of the 2013-14 Premier League campaign.
The fact that Welsh team have been eliminated from the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia leaves the Man United legend to get the Wales team to only friendlies, which might be considered a trial period for Giggs as to whether he can expose his managerial talents.
