Southampton vs Swansea City Match Predictions & Match Preview 12/08/2017
Welsh side Swansea City travel to Southampton on the opening day as both eye to improve on their last Premier league campaign, with Saints determined to thrive under new coach Mauricio Pellegrino while Swans to tweak the 15th-place finish they put to their last season spell. Very interesting what they've got to impress now.
Match status: 2017/18 FA Premier League - Matchweek 1
Kick-off:
Venue: "St Mary's Stadium" in Southampton, England
Former Alaves' coach Mauricio Pellegrino took charge at Southampton at the end of June to replace Claude Puel, who had been at helm of Saints for one year and seemingly guided the team to some success as they won a top ten finish - namely in 8th - but it did not prevent him from being removed at the expense of the 45-year-old Argintine.

The year before last season, Southampton proved to be worthy of playing in Europe after finishing 6th in the 2015/16 campaign and, though the team failed to qualify for the subsequent knock-out stage at the time, a side under Ronald Koeman did make a breakthrough to reach the EFL final in 2017, which they lost 3-2 to Manchester United.

Now that the new manager is believed to succeed at St Mary's, the club is living through a struggling time when key players of the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Jay Rodriguez are set to leave, but they have been successful in attracting Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, who joined Saints for a club record fee of about ?16m, and Lech Poznan defender Jan Bednarek to the squad.

One player who English football fans will be most excited about watching is Manolo Gabbiadini, making a good impact on his side's overall performance up front last season with a record 4 goals across 11 games he had played since joining in the 2017 winter transfer window, as well as in Nathan Redmond and Charlie Austin Southampton hold players able to deliver goals from midfield and more advanced positions relatively.

Having guided his team out of relegation last term, Paul Clement will be hoping not come across a similar scenario in the awaited forthcoming season at top-level. Ever since gaining a top-flight status, Swans has looked more of a side settled in the Premier League and, for sure, have no intention to readily leave the most watched football competition in the world.

Turning to their transfer activity, it's worth noting that the Welsh club has been prudent to some extent in spending on new signings this summer, with Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham joining on loan and a more prominent acquisition in Roque Mesa, who will add steel to the midfield alongside Gylfi Sigur?sson unless the latter leaves for Everton.

Southampton - Swansea Head-to-Head:

Southampton 1-0 Swansea

2015/16 Premier League
Swansea 0-1 Southampton

2015/16 Premier League
Southampton 3-1 Swansea

I think Clement's Swans will be much sharper going forward with their top scorer Fernando Llorente, who registered 15 goals during his 33 appearances but will be out for the first two games due to broken arm, sure to hit the 15-goal mark again, though Abraham, playing beside him, is yet to make a real Premier League debut after shining during a year-long spell at Championship side Bristol City, scoring 23 goals in 41 games for the Bristol club.

With a look at their last outings and keeping in mind that these sides might be found among danger spots come the end of the season, they have to kick off no less effectively but with points to open their 2017-18 accounts. I reckon they will not be able to get the better of each other and end deadlocked at 1-1.

Update: Swansea head manager Paul Clement has revealed Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson will not play in Saturday's opening game against Southampton having been amid speculation of a move away from the Liberty Stadium.
