Copa America: Suarez penalty miss costs Uruguay a place in the semi-finals

The final game of the Copa America 2019 quarter-finals has finished.

Twice the VAR technology was relied on after Edinson Cavani seemed to have opened the scoring for Uruguay with a beautiful shot square on the hour mark and Suarez sent in a cross from the left - both due to offside positions. With no shot reaching target, Peru stood still to hold La Celeste to a scoreless draw.

Uruguay 0 Peru 0.

Uruguay (4-4-2): Muslera; Gonzalez Apud, Gimenez, Godin, Caceres; Nandez (Torreira, 57'), Valverde (Stuani, 90+7'), Bentancur, De Arrascaeta; Cavani, Suarez.

Peru (4-1-4-1): Gallese; Advincula, Abram, Zambrano, Trauco; Tapia; Carrillo (Gonzales, 75'), Yotun, Cueva (Ruidiaz, 85'), Flores; Guerrero.

Penalties:

Stepping up to take the first spot-kick, Luis Suarez hit the stretching Gallese and had his side trailing one goal from the start. What followed was both teams' players were all accurate scoring the subsequent penalties allowing no mistake, with the last shot from Edison Flores effectively seeing Peru 5-4 penalty victors and through to the semi-finals.

Man of the Match: De Arrascaeta.
