Spain confirms Luis Enrique leaves national team after 11 months
Not even a year has passed since former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique succeeded Fernando Hierro at the helm of Spanish national team, signing a two-year deal in July 2018, and he has left the club today for personal reasons, official media of the Spain football team confirms.
Robert Moreno is set to replace him as an interim coach having spent 9 years assisting Enrique at Celta Vigo, Roma, Barcelona and the national team.
Moreno has become a fourth manager of Spain in as short as 13 months and will maintain the same coaching staff who have previously worked with Luis.
“This is a bittersweet day, more bitter than sweet,” Moreno said. “I always dreamed of being Spain coach, but not like this. It’s very difficult for me with these circumstances: sometimes opportunities arrive by routes you don’t like but you have to confront them. This is a responsibility but above all it is an honour.”
