Prior to Monaco’s game against Amiens, there were already calls from notable personalities from around the media to strip Moreno of his job whilst appointing club favorite Leornardo Jardim for an incredible third time.

However, with Les Monesgasques seeing off Amiens, albeit, in a scrappy manner following a narrow 2-1 win, talks of a Moreno sack has quieted down. Now, the home side will be looking to build on that win with another victory against Montpellier Herault.

Stade Louis II is expected to be buzzing on Friday night when Michel Der Zakarian’s charges make a trip across the country to take on fellow Champions League hopefuls Montpellier in what has been billed a potential cracker.

Robert Moreno’s Monaco have finally managed to get some grit into their performances as they have won their last two matches despite not playing their best football.

They trailed with five minutes to go last week against Amiens but managed to eventually win 2-1 through goals from Wissam Ben Yedder and Islam Slimani. This followed their previous victory over Angers (1-0) and Monaco have now clambered up to 7th in Ligue 1.

However, as has been mentioned, these victories have hardly been well-deserved as they barely created enough chances sufficient of a Monaco team that won the league just three years ago. Despite the recent victory at home to Angers, Monaco have not been enjoying themselves at the Stade Louis II with three defeats in their last four in the principality.

They have conceded eight in this time and will need to be careful as they have another difficult opponent coming over the hill in the shape of Montpellier Herault.

Michel Der Zakarian’s side got back on track last week as they edged past Saint-Étienne in a frantic 1-0 encounter. It was a welcomed result for the team that had rather unexpectedly gone three games without a win despite beginning 2020 on a high.

Despite winning six of their last nine matches in all competitions, Der Zakarian’s men have really struggled with playing on the road. They sit 5th in Ligue 1 but would be drifting just above the relegation zone if the table were decided on away results.

They have won just two of their 14 away games this season, both coming against weak opponents in relegation battlers Amiens and amateur side Reims Sainte-Anne, and in their last two outings lost 5-0 to PSG and were knocked out of the cup by fourth-tier Belfort.

Montpellier have a good record against AS Monaco though with a draw and two wins in the last three clashes.

With neither side in glowing form at the moment, we think it’ll be a close encounter here, especially considering that the winner would take a massive step towards European qualification.

We’re going to back this to finish 1-1 as both sides have been in solid scoring form but we’re also going to go for a double chance bet in favor of the visitors. Montpellier haven’t been great on the road but we feel they’re a much more settled outfit than this Monaco squad that are still finding their feet under Moreno and were very lucky in their last two games.
