Chelsea vs Arsenal Preview

The Blues coach, Frank Lampard, has some pondering to do. His Chelsea side struggles against small teams evident by the losses against Southampton, Bournemouth and most recently, Newcastle. The Blues looked destined to cement their top-four position until a last gasp Newcastle goal condemned Chelsea to defeat. They now sit only 5 points above 5th placed Manchester United.

It has been a season of inconsistent performances from Chelsea’s academy products but with the transfer ban lifted, Frank Lampard could use a few talents especially at the back-line. Chelsea has the worst defence in the top 9 teams in the league while their home form is not that convincing(W5 D2 L4). Most probably Chelsea will struggle to fend off the Gunners’ attacking front.

All in all, the Chelsea side has surpassed expectations and with the spotlight on them at the Bridge, they could well come up with a win here. Champions League football is in the Blues hands and a win here would really fuel their dream.

The Gunners travel to the Stamford Bridge after a weekend that saw them give away their one-goal lead in the dying stages of the game to share the spoils with Sheffield United at home. With a very humiliating record at the Bridge, where Arsenal have not won a game since October 2011, drawing once and losing six times in the process, this should be a daunting encounter for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s men have only won twice on the road this season so far, a clear indication of how they need to get positive results from this fixture to build up his reputation as he seeks to get the club back to winning ways.

Chelsea vs Arsenal Team News

The Blues will be without R. Loftus-Cheek (Achilles injury), C. Pulisic (groin injury) and M. Ginkel (knee injury).

The Gunners on the other hand still lack the services of their top goal scorer, P. Aubameyang who is still on suspension following the red card he collected. Sidelined players due to injury include C. Chambers (knee injury), S. Kolasinac (thigh injury), K. Tierney (shoulder injury) and R. Nelson (thigh injury).

Chelsea vs Arsenal Predictions

This will be a very mouth-watering clash between two of England’s biggest sides to wrap up Monday night football. Chelsea will hope to bounce back from the defeat away at Newcastle while the Gunners hope to improve on their Stamford Bridge performances to get away with positive results. Both sides know the stakes ahead hence we should expect well-organized sides for the clash.
