Defeat to local rivals Liverpool in midweek domestic action, in a 5-2 thrashing, prompted Everton to sack under pressure manager Marco Silva. He departed after 18 months at the helm. Under his reign, he oversaw heavy investment in the form of players Alex Iwobi, Y. Minna and Richarlison which did not replicate in the league.

Currently, Everton are in the relegation zone with 14 points after 15 matches (W4 D2 L9) and will need a little less of a miracle to salvage an otherwise sorry season. All is not lost though but interim coach Duncan Ferguson will not relish this clash against an in-form Chelsea side who might as well sink them deeper in the relegation zone.

Chelsea visit Goodison Park in high spirits after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Aston Villa in midweek affairs. It’s turning out to be a fairytale season for former Blues’ player Frank Lampard.

His youngsters have shown the hunger and desire for success while playing some pretty attractive football. Their inexperience is sometimes too obvious on the pitch as the side are finding it hard to keep their back-line composed.

They have failed to keep a clean sheet in 8 of their 9 most recent matches but their fluid attack always compensates their errors at the back. Point man Tammy Abraham is very likely to create tension in Everton’s defence and he could prove problematic here. It is very likely he will be on the score sheet if he is match fit.

Better news for the Blues is that their ban on transfers has been lifted. This means that tactician Lampard could plug his youngster’s shortcomings from the transfer market and there is only one way to look at this - better days are coming for Chelsea.

Injured or Suspended Players:

Everton will be missing out on the trio of Gbamin J.(Thigh Injury), Martina C.(Knee Injury) and Gomes A.(Ankle Injury). The duo of S.Coleman and F.Delph is not likely to feature in Goodison Park.

Long-term absentee van Ginkel M.(Knee Injury) and midfielder Loftus-Cheek R.(Achilles Tendon Injury) are set to sit this one out for Chelsea. Potent forward Tammy Abraham is sweating over his fitness after he appeared strained out in the win over Villa. A. Rudiger and R.Barkley are also doubtful.
