Newcastle are having quite a miserable season. Out of 7 games played this season, the Magpies have only managed one win - a shock result away at Tottenham. Since then, it has been a downhill trend with a 5-0 thumping at Leicester underpinning their struggles. They are currently staring at relegation, sitting a place above bottom-placed Watford.

Having appointed a new coach in July, the players seem to struggle adapting to Steve Bruce’s style of play and this will be a big test of their mentality. Their problems lie deeper. In the last 7 games, Newcastle have only scored 4 goals and conceded 13. At home, they have not found the back of the net in 2 out of 3 games. They are also missing midfielder Isaac Hayden who received a suspension last weekend. Clearly, they have a mountain to climb against a United side also seeking redemption.

Manchester United started on a high at Old Trafford running out 4-0 winners against Chelsea. Many thought it was the beginning of an exciting season under Ole Gunnar. Instead, it has been a series of mixed fortunes with only 2 victories, 2 losses and 3 draws in the campaign so far. Both the manager and players are coming under fire with fans questioning the lack of leadership and character on the pitch as well as a general lack of desire among the players.
